I want to be able to spend time with my friends and family more without having to worry that I might catch something from them so my hope is that there would be better medications to get me to that point and there would be greater awareness that people will not have to go so long to get the help that they need.”

Dermatomyositis
is a rare autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of the muscles and skin. It primarily affects the muscles closest to the trunk of the body, causing muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, and fatigue. Additionally, individuals with dermatomyositis often develop distinctive skin rashes, including a purple or reddish discoloration on the eyelids and over the knuckles, elbows, knees, and other joints. This condition can significantly impact daily activities and quality of life, making simple tasks challenging.
